OBRA OBERTA AL FUTUR

On the occasion of the closing of the OBRA OBERTA exhibition, a roundtable discussion is being organized to reflect on the relationship between architecture and time—past, present, and future. The event proposes a dialogue on how architectural projects engage with memory, landscape, materiality, and resources, as well as on the open challenges posed by the future: sustainability, energy, territory, and the need for sensitive, inventive, and non-dogmatic responses.

“Our work has a specific relationship with time.
It always begins at a moment, in a present, from an intense gaze directed at a point in history, with the past present to a greater or lesser extent.
Yet the work opens itself to the future, and sometimes to a very distant future.
The presence of architecture from the past surrounds us and at times becomes part of who we are. Therefore, in a more or less conscious way, the future of our works may become part of a shared experience.

Speaking about the future is always complex and difficult. In a world in constant change, however, it seems especially necessary.
Certain questions, still imprecise, appear on the horizon.

Sustainability, for example. The relationship with energy and telluric forces.
The landscape as an interlocutor of what is built, in contrast to the past rhetoric of the historic city.

Space, as the place that justifies volume and accommodates human activities, at one time seen by some as mere residue between walls.

Matter, always present, now with uncertain foundations, between abstraction and expressionism.

Open questions that call for specific and inventive developments, and that should not become stylistic dogmas to be repeated.”
