Manuel Gausa In Memoriam – 1959-2025
Josep Lluís Mateo took part in the tribute event dedicated to Manuel Gausa, held at the Col·legi d’Arquitectes de Catalunya (COAC), in recognition of Gausa’s contribution to architecture, editorial culture and critical discourse.
On this occasion, Mateo shared a brief personal reflection recalling their early professional years together at Quaderns, where Gausa began his career shortly after graduating. Mateo recalled those early days:
Some time ago, when we were very young, I remember Manuel, freshly graduated from the School, happy in the Quaderns editorial office, surrounded by papers, texts, photographs…
He came from the Lycée Français (Ribera), and not long after, Marta Cervelló arrived, coming from Prague (Plečnik) and with a similar background.
I remember their curiosity, their joy, and their capability.
When my time there came to an end, before disappearing completely, it was a pleasure to hand over my space to him, confident that the ship would keep sailing.
And so it did.
